KOTA TINGGI, Feb 24 – A natural batik technique entrepreneur, Norida Dahlan, 61, showcases her collection of natural batik clothing and shawls to visitors at the 31st ASEAN Economic Ministers' (AEM) Retreat at the Desaru Coast Conference Centre.
Johor-born entrepreneur Norida produces a variety of fabric-based products under the Norli Creation brand, which she has been developing since 2018. Among the products she offers are handbags, tote bags, cardigans, t-shirts, blouses, and hats, all crafted using the natural batik technique.
According to her, the eco-print technique involves steaming leaves or flowers onto fabric for two hours.
"Leaves or flowers are placed on the fabric and tightly wrapped before being steamed. The steam extracts the natural sap from the leaves or flowers, leaving behind unique patterns on the fabric," she explains.
